My exams and my new hobby!

I'm done with 5 of 8 of my exams. None of them are like killer hard but none of them are killer easy. Except for like Mandarin cause that was like really damn easy.

So now I am going to be a nerd and be a comic book nerd! I just finished 'getting' these comics from an undisclosed source. It's like an Ultimate Marvel pack. This Ultimate series is like a remake of all those comic dudes so that all the new readers (like me) can read those comics without trying to find comics from the 1950s to find out the origins of like Spiderman.

So yea, I'm gonna start with Ultimate Spiderman, cause Spiderman is Spiderman.

Outside of that, today I just finished Season 1 of Gossip Girl which officially makes me up to date on 2 shows, Heroes and Gossip Girl. The fact that both of these shows have new seasons coming up in like fall has everything to do with it. All the other ones are busy making new episodes so I'll like never be able to catch up.

Boo.

So now I'm back to my TV Show watching schedule. I am slotting in One Tree Hill in my Gossip Girl slot and I have replace My Name is Earl with Justice League, cause My Name is Earl is pretty lame. It's ok to like watch a random episode of it on TV but watching it on your computer is kind of lame and it's not that funny.

Celtics and Lakers both take Game 1

Wow. I haven't even checked the recap or anything even though I've been home for an hour. I'm busy with my Science revision. I remember when Kevin checked the score today for the Spurs/Lakers game the Spurs had a comfortable lead at halftime and extended it a bit further and had it at like close to 20. The last time I checked was San Antonio with a 7 point lead. Kobe Bryant was playing like a piece of crap. Then in English when I checked again, the Lakers somehow won.

Wow. Kobe with 25 second half points, pulling off a 20 point with like 1.5 quarters to play.

Talk about MVP.

That's your MVP right there.

Now I wasn't born yet when the Lakers/Celtics rivalry was around, but I've read about it. This rivalry is about to be renewed. If the Lakers and Celtics both make the Finals it would be one heck of a final. Both of them are the more exciting to watch of the remaining Conference finalists and they both have one heck of a history against each other. So it's going to be crazy.

Wow.

OMG THA PLAYOFFS R EXCITIN!!

Watched Game 7 of the Celtics/Cavaliers series. It was a great game. Celtics took command early but the Cavs chipped away and made it a ball game. LeBron's missed free throw at the end was huge... Ray Allen with some huge free throws near the end to put the game away. It was a good game. LeBron and Pierce were both crazy as both of them went off for 40+

Ray Allen still hasn't really shown up for the playoffs, shooting some pretty poor percentages but I kind of expect this to change for the Pistons series.

Really it's about time for Ray.

So tomorrow (or tonight) is the Game 7 of the Hornets/Spurs series. The home team is like 21-1 in the playoffs this whole second round, so it looks like the Hornets will be winning this one. Chris Paul is incredible, but I don't like him.

My prediction for the Pistons/Celtics series is Celtics in 7... Again.

Wow.

I'll see who wins the Hornets/Spurs series before I make any predictions, but I think the Hornets are taking this one.

Saving the environment

So you know you always hear this environment shit.

I've been a good boy.

It's like halfway past May and I have never used the air conditioner at home.

For those international readers that there seem to be quite a lot of, in Hong Kong every home (except for those really rundown ones) is like fitted with an air conditioner because in the Summer you just need it. Not every home is fitted with those heating systems because it never gets that cold in Hong Kong.

So all I've been using is my little fan.

Go me. And I'm one of those people that sleeps a lot easier with a blanket. I always sleep with a blanket. Even in the summer. I guess I'm kind of a bitch like that because prior to this year I'd wrap myself up in unnecessary layers and be hotter and like turn on the air conditioner when I can just sleep without a blanket.

I don't know that's like the only actual sleep habit I have. Some people need to listen to music to go to sleep, some people must sleep in complete darkness... For me I just need a blanket. I just feel a lot more comfortable that way. Maybe everyone is like that, I have no idea because this is not something that I usually talk to people about.

I don't really have any other unusual sleeping habits. Lately I've been listening to music as I fall to sleep.

So yea, no air conditioning. Good for me. We use enough at school. In school all the teachers blast air conditioning all the time.

Buying new earphones!

My iPod earbuds are really crap. And so are yours probably, unless you bought one of the newer iPods, so in your case they're slightly better. I think.

But still, they suck. I was listening to them on the train the other day and I remember why I stopped using my iPod. Because listening on the train was as good as not listening unless you turn the volume up pretty high.

Recently I've started listening to my iPod (1st Gen 4GB Nano), mainly because I was going away to SEAMC and I needed some entertainment other than quadratic equations and the lot. So I took out my iPod again, and used playlists for the first time so I can pick about 600 songs onto my iPod Nano. The packaging and the website kinda promised 1000 songs. Oh well. 400 songs. Same difference.

So one time on basketballforum.com, a forum I frequently go to, someone started a thread on headphones. I took a look inside and some of those guys were discussing stuff like how Bose was complete shit for their price, and someone posted a link to this audiophile forum, called head-fi.org.

Curious, I go on the website, and before long I find myself wondering if I need an upgrade from those iPod earbuds myself. I started a thread with all the specifications and I got recommended some full size headphones called the AKG K518DJ. Below is the headphone that people kinda recommended. I found a headphone place in Hong Kong that sold them for $450, which is pretty cheap considering how far these headphones can go.
But obviously, with a set of headphones like that, I am not going to get any looks from people and I will be able to put it in my pocket comfortably.

So I asked for some earphones, and for those audiophiles if you were gonna get those you're gonna go in ear, also known as IEM. I got recommended like these really n00b ones and this pair called the Head-Direct RE2. Head-Direct is a relatively new Chinese company and the only place you can buy them is like from their website.

Today, after Mother's Day food shopping at Taste in Festival Walk, I decided to stop by Broadway to see if they had any of the headphones mentioned. The n00b ones (JVC Marshmallows) were there, in black as well for 188. I had money so I decided to buy them.

I got to try them like right away on the bus and man, what a transcending experience! They're the noob ones as well.

From a pretty normal person's point of view who still listens to music with the built in speakers in his monitor, it was quite a difference. The sound sounded a lot more thick and powerful, a lot of the extra background noise like the engine of the bus was blocked out.

I liked pretty much everything about it. It looked really normal, they were comfortable. The noise cancellation was perfect for me. Blocks out most background noises but I can still hear the thing telling me what the next station is and I can hear Indian men talking. My mom has this issue that those noise canceling headphones will cancel out like fire alarms and cars honking if they are right about to hit me. Since most of the background noise was gone, I could put the sound to a lower more comfortable level.

And all that can be had for 188 at Broadway! I probably could've gotten them cheaper if I looked, but whatever. They're cheaper than those iPod earphones, so next time they break and you're looking for a pair of cheap earphones, the JVC Marshmallow is the way to go. They come in lots of different colors as well if you look around. Here's a pic of my new earphone and my pretty good condition iPod Nano.

Ok. I don't know how to rotate it in this blog thing. Oh well. If you really want to know, it's Rising Down by The Roots. No I don't 247 songs in my music library. I just put what I feel like on my iPod Nano. Sometimes I load it up with like 600 sometimes I just put around 100. Sometimes if I really like 1 artist I'll just fill up my whole iPod with songs by that artist. But that hasn't happened since my Linkin Park/BEP days. :(

Back on Ubuntu

Since this blog kinda got like 60/70 new unique visitors because of my post about Ubuntu (or Kevin Teng... You never know), some of which from countries whose flag I don't even recognize, I've decided to use Ubuntu as my primary OS except for when I'm gaming... Which isn't even that often, considering I only play 1 game which is NBA Live 08.

I'll probably be running Ubuntu on my rig in USA where I can work it better cause my sister has a lot of friends that know computer stuff and maybe I can work this dualboot crap better.

I might actually try my hand at some of these Linux games. They don't look half bad.

Wow.

I came back to check my blog after a while and I saw like this insane amount of different flags on my flag counter. I thought the flag counter must have like fucked up and switched with another website, but there are like the same amount of Hong Kong people that read my blog since I last checked...

Yes people read my blog!

And the key to it was my blog post about Ubuntu!

Well unfortunately for all you Linux geeks, I don't think I'll be blogging about Ubuntu that much because blogging about using a computer is pretty boring. Wow.

This really is weird, because now there are some people that actually read this.

I don't think they'll be reading this again anytime soon, unless you guys really like finding about a 14 year old's life.

But it's pretty interesting I guess. :P

So Mother's Day is coming up soon. In fact it's tomorrow, maybe a little later for those people all the way in USA (I know you're there!). I originally planned to surprise my mom by cooking her dinner, but like a week ago she actually told me "Hey Jordan why don't you cook me dinner for Mother's Day?"

So now I need to like cook dinner for her.

I am actually doing a google search for 'ubuntu blogspot'. I'm on the 19th page and there is no mention of my blog.

How the fuck did you guys get here!?

You know what's even more stupid? I'm actually on Windows right now. Yea. Windows XP!

Ok now I feel pretty bad because my blog actually got some views because of Ubuntu and I'm not even using it.

I'm going to swap back to Ubuntu now.

I'll be right back! :D

Getting ready for Celtics/Hawks Game 7

There's about half an hour left until what could be the greatest upset in NBA history tips off.

The Celtics, a favorite by many to win the NBA Championship, loaded with 3 superstars (or not quite superstars) in Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen along with their key role players Rajon Rondo, Kendrick Perkins, Sam Cassel and James Posey are about to take on the 37 win Atlanta Hawks with shooter Joe Johnson, athletic freak of nature Josh Smith, veteran, streaky shooting point guard Mike Bibby and rookie Al Horford in Game 7 at the TD Banknorth Garden.

Wow.

If the Celtics have a comfortable lead at halftime I'll probably stop watching. If it's a barely double digit lead or low double digits I'll probably keep watching, because you never know with these Hawks. They outscored Boston by 15 in the 4th quarter in Game something. I don't remember.

20 minutes left until tip off. I need a cup of water and I need to pee. I have some darkish chocolate next to me as my boost of caffeine.

I have math first thing tomorrow. Oh well math is pretty stress-free. Just do math for a while and the lesson is over.

Sweet.

Note to self - I must get some full size headphones. All this late-night computer-ing with iPod earbuds really hurts my ears.

Me and Linux (Ubuntu) - Day 1

So here I am with my cool orangey OS. I've tried using it a few times before but I fail because I don't know how to install. So now I am officially a Linux user. I use Ubuntu, cause it sounds cool and it's orange.

Everything is pretty neat. Unfortunately I can't use the visual effects because the graphics card is too shit, but a lot of things are faster. I am currently transferring my 69 GB of music right back to my new 320GB hard drive and it takes like half the time. I have 2 screens to work with (I think I can make more).

The main disadvantage is the lack of applications... not... I think. There are lots of alternatives and they're pretty good. Like this music player called Rhythmbox Music Player where it has all this extra shit. Like built in last.fm support and like iPod support and other stuff that I haven't tried yet.

Ubuntu comes pre-installed with a lot of free applications that should cover the average person's needs... There's OpenOffice, a free Microsoft Office alternative. It comes with some simple games as well.

There's like 2 bars on Ubuntu. It's like the taskbar in Windows split into 2. The top has and equivalent to the start menu and quicklaunch as well as the sound control thing and that tray thing and time and the power button. The bottom is where all the running programs are, the desktop button, the recycle bin and the screen switching thing.

There are some skins that you can switch around with and you can also download other skins. One feature that I find pretty neat is that when you maximize a window if you drag the top bar it automatically minimizes and when you drag it back up it maximizes again. So yea pretty sweet.

I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 and I have to say it's pretty damn good. I have one disk so if you want it you can ask me.

But I'm pretty sure no one reads my blog.

So fuck y'all.
